TRANSBAY JOINT POWERS AUTHORITY ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING THE TRAGEDY AT THE SANTA CLARA VALLEY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY
San Francisco, CA – Today, Transbay Joint Powers Authority (TJPA) Board Chair Jeff Gee and Interim Executive Director Nila Gonzales provided the following statement relating to the tragedy that occurred at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) light rail facility this morning:
“We are deeply saddened by today’s events in San Jose at VTA’s light rail facility. There are no words to describe the tragic loss of life, and the devastation to the families, the community, and to the VTA-family.
On behalf of TJPA, we send our thoughts, prayers and support. There is no place for the tragedy that took place today, and we stand in support of San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo to do everything that we can to ensure that events like this never happen again.”
About the TJPA:
The TJPA is owner and operator of the multimodal Salesforce Transit Center and is working to extend Caltrain and ultimately, California High-Speed Rail service from 4th and King streets to the Salesforce Transit Center in downtown San Francisco through the Downtown Rail Extension project.
