Transbay Joint Powers Authority Announces Rooftop Restaurant Space Leased at Salesforce Transit Center
San Francisco, CA – The Transbay Joint Powers Authority (TJPA) today announced that the TJPA Board of Directors unanimously approved a 15-year lease for its one-of-a-kind restaurant space atop the Salesforce Transit Center to JSSK Group, an experiential restaurant management and hospitality venture.
The nearly 5,000 square foot restaurant, in addition to an outdoor rooftop lounge, will be home to a Japanese restaurant concept featuring California Japanese Cuisine by acclaimed, award-winning Chef Shotaro “Sho” Kamio and his partner Josh Sigel, who heads the restaurant group.
“Leasing the iconic rooftop restaurant is a major milestone in our overall retail strategy that aims to bring a diverse mix of businesses to serve our growing neighborhood while making the transit center an attractive destination for people from throughout the Bay Area and beyond,” said Mark Zabaneh, Executive Director, Transbay Joint Powers Authority. “I welcome JSSK Group and Chef Shotaro Kamio and look forward to working with them as they bring their vision and passion to the transit center.”
Mr. Kamio’s solo venture, Iyasare, which opened on Fourth Street in Berkeley in 2014, is his most recognized and highly acclaimed project to date.
“This project is an opportunity to push the boundaries of my culinary creativity to new heights,” said Chef Shotaro “Sho” Kamio. “We seek to bring a style of food that is not imported from Japan but created here for the Bay Area with an appropriate level of originality and innovation that makes the concept feel unique yet surprisingly familiar. The dining experience will be as unique and exciting as the space itself. We are grateful to be partnering with the TJPA. Spaces such as this one on Salesforce Park do not exist. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and we cannot wait to share it with everyone.”
JSSK Group is investing in extensive tenant improvements and has not yet announced a name or opening date for the restaurant and rooftop lounge and will share more details early next year.
The new restaurant joins 13 other businesses at the transit center leaving only 15 retail spaces remaining of the original 36. Tenants have now leased more than 63,000 square feet out of the available nearly 92,000 square feet and many are now conducting tenant improvements.
Businesses that have leased space at the transit center include Fitness SF, Kaiser Permanente, Onsite Dental, Philz Coffee, Per Diem, Charleys, Venga Empanadas, Tycoon Kitchen, Foundation Café, Eddie Rickenbacker’s, Feve Chocolates, Acquolina, and Dim Baos. Philz Coffee will open this Fall in two locations within the transit center.
